frequently asked questions:

  • Each class is designed for actors at similar acting levels. Contact us and we will set up a call or a face-to-face meeting to talk more about where you're at in your career and what you'd like to achieve in class. This helps us determine which class environment will best help you advance your skills.

  • Many other institutions concentrate on a specific acting technique. We strive to teach actors how to be as authentic and real as possible in the classroom and in performance by implementing various techniques catered to the individual. Throughout Michael’s career, he has studied Meisner, the Method, Chekov, Stanislavski and others, and uses what he has learned to guide his students. Every actor has their own approach to their work, and so some techniques do not necessarily work for all. It’s about taking what you’ve already learned and building upon it, opening you up to new approaches along the way.

  • We frequently offer complimentary classes, where actors interested in studying with us can come and work on materials assigned to them in advance, just like a typical class. Those classes will be listed on Backstage.com on the News page. Check back frequently for new dates.

  • Yes. Many students choose to take multiple classes per week. As a bonus, class rates are discounted when you sign up for multiple classes.

  • We have classes for all levels whether you are at the beginning stages of your career or you have been working for years. Class placement is based on your experience and training, so we will work with you to find the best fit.

  • The studio is located in Midtown Manhattan, just around the corner from Port Authority and Times Square at 330 W 38th Street.

  • The short answer is no. It is imperative that you make every effort to be in class so you can continue to improve in your work. Scene study classes in particular are reliant on partner work, and you must be able to commit to full attendance to enroll. Therefore we do not offer refunds, pro-rated rates for absences, or make-up classes. If you are unable to come to a class, you can self-tape your scene for that week and submit it for review and critique. The only exceptions are absences for acting work or auditions.

  • Absolutely. You are always welcome to come back and study. If classes are full, we will keep in touch when a spot opens.

  • Payments can be made in a number of ways. I can accept cash or check, Venmo, or Chase Quick Pay/Zelle. Payments are due the week before each class cycle begins.

  • **At this time, all individuals must be able to show proof of completed Covid-19 vaccination to attend in-person classes.**

Mask wearing will be optional for all vaccinated persons in class. All surfaces and high touch items will be cleaned and sanitized before each class, and sanitizer will be available for students at all times.

I encourage all of my students to do what makes them feel safest in class. Online classes are still available for those who may not be able to attend in-person classes.
